Pigmented spots on the face are not unusual and these coloured spots or patches on the skin are caused by an increased production of melanin, the dark pigment in the skin.
Facial pigmentation is often referred to as sun spots, liver spots, freckles or can be seen as an uneven skin tone. Some facial pigmentation is present at birth whilst others develop with exposure to sun or with age.
How does LOII work for Pigmentation treatments?
LOll works by directing well controlled pulses of light into the upper skin layer. The light is absorbed by one of the body’s own natural chemicals — melanin — which is concentrated in the pigmented areas.
Melanin converts the light energy into heat. This heat is used to destroy the parts of the cells in which the melanin is stored.
The visible light produced by the LOII system is carefully controlled to produce the correct pulse length and right amount of energy to destroy the target without damaging surrounding tissue.
What can I expect?
Following your IPL treatment, the skin may be slightly red and the areas of pigment will darken and may appear more obvious, rising to the surface of the skin before being exfoliated and fading away naturally within 1-2 weeks. This is a positive indication of a successful IPL treatment and no cause tor concern.
