Healing and Aftercare
Healing and Aftercare, What must I do?
The key to excellent pigment retention and safe healing is simple, to keep the area KEEP CLEAN, COOL & DRY
- Keep area away from water for 24 hours.
- To prevent infection do not touch pigmented areas
- Avoid makeup on treated area for 2-4 days post procedure.
- No vigorous exercise for 4/5 days and no warm or wet environments (swimming pools etc.)
- No sun, sunbeds, soap, cleansers or makeup on procedure area, for 7 days or until crust has flaked away, (you may gently wipe with a cotton pad and cool boiled water, not salt or saline)
- No hot showers, saunas, Jacuzzi or swimming in chlorinated pools for 7-10 days, as these will affect the treated areas.
- Remember if crust appears on procedure area DO NOT pick or peel off! Pigment will be removed along with the crust!
- No Brow or lash tinting for at least 14 days
If swelling occurs you may use ice on the area(s) for 10 minutes every hour. (Ice must be dry, ie, in a bag wrapped in a towel)
What will my brows look like after treatment?
Immediately after treatment the brows will be much darker and slightly wider than when they heal. What you are seeing is the surface residue pigment and blood mixed, just as if you were to scratch yourself, the scratch would be blood red. When the brows heal you will see what is underneath the skin, the colour will heal softer and more muted.
There will be minimal swelling and redness, which subsides quickly, within an hour of two. The area will feel hot, like sunburn and you may have a mild headache?
Day and effect
Day 1. Eyebrows appear darker and wider than when healed. The skin is red under the pigment, which causes brows to appear darker.
Day 2. As day 1. Still slightly tender to the touch
Day 3. Eyebrows begin to itch and will appear a bit thicker in texture.
Day 4. Skin begins to thicken and flake – This should be a gentle exfoliation of colour. From the evening of Day 4, you may apply a small glossing of aftercare balm at night. This is to stop you scratching in your sleep and pulling out the colour
Day 5-8. Excess surface colour continues to flake away and may look uneven and very patchy, this is totally normal. Do not pick or pull and the flaky skin, touch gently and if it comes away by itself, great, if not leave it.
By day 7 or 8 the brows should finish flaking. The colour will appear quite faint in places and softer overall. A second treatment will be required to deepen colour. The colour appears very faint on day 7-13, but it does re-emerge and clarify on days 14-35.
This is the normal process of cellular renewal and the healing of the skin.
