Skin – the facts about ageing
As we age our skin suffers, outside pollutants, sun and UV light all effect the way our skin looks and feels. Intrinsic factors such as smoking, drinking alcohol and bad diet are also main contributors to dull looking skin, puffy eyes and an increase in fine lines and wrinkles.
Not only is it expensive, difficult and sometimes totally unrealistic, to just eat organic food, use the best beauty products, get 8-10 hours sleep every night, stop smoking, cut out on alcohol and spend your life in the shade?
Many of us, don’t want to go under the knife, inject chemicals into our skin, or have expensive deep facial peels with weeks of healing/down time.
THE SCIENCE
The building blocks of our skin is collagen and all the evidence shows that by the time we reach 35 our production has slowed significantly, you would have lost nearly half of your body’s collagen. You may now begin to notice fine lines and winkles and a more dull complexion …… By 40 Collagen Production is down by over 70%.
THE SOLUTION?
One of the only methods that has been scientifically proven to induct collagen is ‘needling’ the skin. The Chinese have known this for thousands of years- they invented acupuncture and were aware of it’s anti aging properties to the skin.
Using any needling technique is a more holistic approach to slow the signs of ageing, with little or no down time. It is a safe natural approach to anti-ageing and works by getting your body to produce more collagen.
Not only is it great to start building the collagen levels back in your skin but it also can be used to prevent collagen loss once you are happy with your skin.
You can spend a fortune on lotions and potions and whilst these expensive creams do have a place in the grand scheme of anti-ageing, most intend to improve appearance and don’t actually work at a deeper level to stop the very reason we are ageing in the first place, a slow down in collagen production!
Clinical studies show that by causing mild trauma to your skin using needling techniques, it automatically signals the need to replenish and heal in your body.
Your collagen production is increased by over 1000% after just one treatment. This is absolutely amazing as far as anti-aging is concerned. It leaves most of the other treatments and products null and void in comparison.
Additionally there is a 10,000 fold increase in the absorption of products in a single use when used in conjunction with an MCA treatment, Meso therapy Cell boost and a Dermal Roller.
Therefore it is imperative to use only purely natural products, safe and effective serums using vegan ingredients that have been scientifically proven to rejuvenate skin cells and reduce redness after your treatment. These skin products will be tailored specifically for you, for use during and after your treatment
Most beauty creams contain high levels of chemicals and synthetic substances that can be toxic to the liver and your health when absorbed at these increased levels.
WHY DO WE AGE?
The Science
The skin is made up of 3 layers, The Epidermis, The Dermis and Subcutaneous tissue.

Epidermis
The Epidermis is the outer layer of the skin and thereby functions as a barrier to the external environment. The cells of the epidermis (keratinocytes) move from the bottom to the top layer building up keratin and developing a tough outer shell. Once they reach the top layer they flake off, this is cellular renewal.
As we age these cells become thinner and less sticky, the thinner cells make the skin appear noticeably thinner, and the decreased stickiness makes it less effective as a barrier, therefore less able to retain moisture. The skin becomes dryer and the number of the cells decreases by about 10% per decade. The cells divide more slowly affecting renewal and repair.
Dermis
The second layer of the skin is the dermis, which contains the structural elements of the skin, the connective tissue. There are various types of connective tissue, which have different functions. For example, Collagen, gives the skin its strength, Elastin, its spring or elasticity and proteins, Glycosaminoglycan’s give the skin its turgor (ability to “snap back”).
As we age the Dermal layer thins, less collagen is produced and the Elastin fibres wear out. These changes in the skin cause it to wrinkle and sag.
The skin becomes dryer as the sebaceous glands get bigger but produce “less” sebum and the number of sweat glands decrease.
Dermal – Epidermal Junction
This area forms an important structure; these two layers interlock forming fingerlike projections called “Rete Ridges”. The cells of the epidermis (outer layer) receive their nutrients from the blood vessels in the dermis (second layer). The rete ridges increase the surface area of the epidermis making it able to draw up more nutrients from the underlying layer.
As we age these ridges flatten out making the skin more fragile and delicate. The surface area decreases and therefore fewer nutrients are available from the dermis to the outer layer of the skin the epidermis.
Subcutaneous Tissue
The bottom layer of the skin contains fat cells. These cells provide insulation to the body and make the skin look plump or full.
As we age the fat cells get smaller, this make the wrinkles and sagging more noticeable as the fat cells cannot “fill in” the damage from other layers.
